Gruuthuse Museum

Close to theDijver channel you can admire the Gruuthuse Museum. The museum lies inside a big medieval palace, once residence of the merchant Gruuthuse, who was charged with the collection of the fee onGruit. The Gruit was a blend of herbs used in the fermentation of barley to produce beer.
The museum counts large rooms, 22 halls, and today it plays host to an important collection of decorative arts among which are splendid tapestries, furniture, wooden carvings and an area dedicated to curative medicine
Do not miss a visit of the kitchen (maintained exactly as it was at that time); the Chapel dated 1472, entirely covered with oak wood, and the bust of Charles V, situated on the ground floor, which was sculpted in 1520 by the German artist Konrad Meit.
